Tim Martin, chairman of Wetherspoon, expressed optimism about the pub chain's performance, stating that he anticipated a 'reasonable outcome' for the current financial year.
JD Wetherspoon has reported a significant financial achievement, with total revenue surpassing £2 billion. This comes alongside a 7.6% increase in like-for-like sales.
The pub chain reported a profit before tax of £73.9 million for the 52 weeks ending 28 July 2024.
JD Wetherspoon's pub count currently stands at 800, a decline from the 879 pubs it operated in 2019. Despite this reduction, chairman Tim Martin remains optimistic, reaffirming his belief that the business has the potential to expand to 1,000 sites in the future.
Latest openings include the Captain Flinders near Euston Station, the Lion and the Unicorn in Waterloo Station, the Star Light at Heathrow Airport, and the Grand Assembly in Marlow.
Chairman Tim Martin reported that in the last nine weeks, leading up to 29 September 2024, JD Wetherspoon saw a 4.9% increase in like-for-like sales.
'The company currently anticipates a reasonable outcome for the current financial year, subject to our future sales performance,' he said.
