Pret A Manger scraps plan to double the price of its £5 coffee subscription

Pret A Manger has reversed its decision to double the price of its coffee subscription scheme next month.

The coffee chain has assured its Club Pret members that they will still receive 50% off up to five barista-made drinks per day for £5 a month.

The subscription had originally been set to rise to £10 a month starting 31 March.

In an email to subscribers, Pret said: “At Pret, we believe in offering high-quality, organic coffee and Barista-made drinks at fantastic value. With Club Pret, you’ll continue to enjoy great savings on up to five Barista-made drinks per day.

“Thank you for being part of Club Pret. We love serving you and hope to see you in our shops very soon.”

In early 2024, Club Pret offered members five hot or iced barista-made drinks per day and a 20% discount on food for a monthly fee of £30.

As part of the changes, Pret removed the 20% discount on food, with its UK and Ireland managing director, Clare Clough, stating that the chain had 'never really got comfortable with' the offer.

Pret’s sales surpassed £1 billion for the first time last year, driven by its rapid international expansion into markets including Canada, India, Greece, Spain, and the US.

Last year, Pret underwent an operational shake-up, with co-founder Sinclair Beecham rejoining as part of a senior team reshuffle. The chain also closed the last of its once-hyped vegetarian-only stores and introduced its first children’s menu to attract more families to its cafés.

Last summer, Leon challenged Pret with the launch of its own rival coffee subscription, offering users up to five barista-made drinks per day for £25 a month.
