Swingers to shut down its original city location due to redevelopment plans

Crazy golf bar Swingers will close its original City of London location due to plans for the building's demolition.

The Bank location will close its doors for the last time on 22 March in anticipation of a planned redevelopment by the landlord.

Swingers City first opened in 2016 and was the company’s first permanent location after the success of its Shoreditch pop-up.

It was one of the pioneering venues in the competitive socialising market, featuring crazy golf, cocktails, and street food in a theatrical atmosphere.

Since then, a surge of experiential entertainment venues has emerged, with concepts like the ping pong venue Bounce, darts bar Flight Club, and shuffleboard venue Electric Shuffle opening multiple locations.

Once the City site closes, Swingers will have just one London venue remaining. The company has also expanded into the US, with openings in New York, Washington DC, and Las Vegas. Additionally, new locations are planned to open in Boston and Dubai later this year following a £40 million investment secured in 2023.

Matt Grech-Smith, co-founder and co-chief executive of Swingers, said: “Swingers City was where it all started. When we first signed the lease, we had no idea how much this venue would shape not only our business but the wider competitive socialising scene. At the time, the concept of combining crazy golf with high-quality food and drink in an immersive setting was virtually unheard of.

“Swingers City helped pave the way for an entire industry, inspiring a new era of social entertainment. It has been an incredible ride, and we are so grateful to our amazing team, loyal guests, and everyone who has been part of the Swingers City story.

“While we are sad to see it go, we are excited to continue building on its legacy as we continue to expand.”
