Quorn Foods partners with NHS to promote healthier eating

Quorn Foods has partnered with NHS hospitals to promote the importance of healthy eating to staff and visitors.

The food manufacturer is the main sponsor of the NHS Sustainability Day (24 March), and is urging NHS Trusts to make small changes to popular menu choices in staff and visitor restaurants to realise saturated fat, calorie and carbon savings.

Across 15 hospitals, the group has been setting up sampling stations serving Quorn dishes. The dishes instantly saved the NHS staff and visitors that took part a total of 50,000 calories, and 2.5kg of saturated fat, as well as increasing dietary fibre intake.

In just two hours on the same day last year, Quorn Foods saved the NHS in each of the hospitals taking part in the activity an incredible 25,000 calories, 150kg of carbon, nearly ten tonnes of water and a significant increase in the consumption of dietary fibre.

Tony Davison, commercial manager foodservice, Quorn Foods commented, “We all have a responsibility to live more sustainably to protect the future of our planet and our health. The foodservice industry is in a strong position to make a real difference through innovative and sustainable menu development. We are committed to supporting this positive change.

“The NHS is a huge institution and a fantastic example of the potential to make a real difference. We proved last year how easy it is to provide delicious, healthier and sustainable meals by simply switching to Quorn products in popular dishes. We would like to see more NHS Trusts getting on board this year to make an even bigger impact.

'Ultimately, our aspiration is for healthy, sustainable dishes to be embedded in NHS menus across the UK every day – just imagine the calorie, fat, carbon and water savings this would achieve!”
