LACA chair urges school caterers to get involved in NSMW

LACA chair Brad Pearce has encouraged school caterers up and down the country to get involved in the 2022 edition of National School Meals Week (NSMW), which takes place from 7-11 November.

The overall theme for NSMW is ‘together we make a difference’ focusing on green issues with the week running at the same time as COP27.

Brad (pictured) remarked, 'National School Meals Week is one of the highlights of the LACA annual calendar and it’s the opportunity for school caterers, and suppliers to the industry, to shout about the fantastic work we all do each and every day of the school year!

“As LACA chair, I know from the work of my own team in Plymouth, just how fantastic the service is, how high the quality of meals and how committed all of our teams are to making sure that all children and young people can sit down to a great tasting, freshly prepared, hot school lunch. Now more than ever, we know that for many the school lunch may be their only hot meal of the day.

“So, wherever you are in the country, please join in and get involved with NSMW this year and share your amazing school food and school catering teams across social media #makingadifference. I look forward to seeing all of your great work and thank you for your support.”

The five themed events include:
• Together, we make a difference launch:
A fun NSMW 2022 launch day promoting your activities for the week
• Go green lunch: A day to showcase plant-based menus and what you are doing to get children to engage and eat more
• Our local lunch: A roast dinner day showcasing the best of local British produce, reducing food miles
• Eat more, waste less: A day to educate children on reducing food waste, recycling and composting. Can you create a low energy lunch?
• VIP Day: Whether you are inviting a VIP or local MP for lunch or just saying thank you to your staff a day of celebrating. All school caterers are VIPs
