Nima Safaei to launch third restaurant in London

Restaurateur Nima Safaei is preparing to open his third London diner, 27 Old Compton Street, next month.

Set to open on 24 March, the Soho restaurant will serve Italian dishes inspired by the country’s casual eateries, known as ‘tavola calda’ or ‘hot table’.

The new restaurant comes about two years after founder and executive chef Nima Safaei launched 64 Old Compton Street, the sister site to the flagship 40 Dean Street, which has been serving since 2009.

His latest outpost is inspired by the Italian tradition of gathering around high tables, enjoying a bowl of fresh pasta and a glass of wine.

The menu will feature dishes such as rigatoni amatriciana with pancetta and chillies, pumpkin, ricotta, and sage ravioli, gnocchi with cavolo nero and pesto, and pea risotto with broad beans and asparagus.

These dishes can be paired with a selection of Italian wines and cocktails, including the Amalfi citrussy martini and the Pomodoro Piccante, an Italian twist on the classic Bloody Mary.

The restaurant will feature 30 covers spread across two floors and will operate with a walk-in-only policy.

Safaei, founder of the trio of Soho restaurants, said: “The concept of ‘tavola calda’ instantly resonated with me - I wanted to create that spot for fast, high-quality food that doesn’t compromise on taste or flavour. 27 Old Compton Street will bring a slice of ‘la dolce vita’ to London and be a place where people can drop in effortlessly, knowing they’ll get incredible pasta, fab drinks and a buzzing atmosphere.

“I’m delighted to be adding another string to my bow as a restaurateur and to embark on this challenge. It’s a totally different space to my other two sites - but one that still feels undeniably Soho. I can’t wait to welcome everyone to 27 Old Compton Street!”
