Compass Group to see 5.5% half year revenue rise

The world's largest catering firm, Compass Group expects underlying revenue for the first half year to 31 March 2015 to rise around 5.5%, and operating profit margin improvement of around 10 basis points.

The company attributed the rise to a return to growth in Europe and Japan, combined with strong demand in the US.

Having a strong first half year, Compass expects a positive full year. However, the economic environment in some of its emerging markets is uncertain, and lower commodity prices are impacting its offshore and remote business.

The group states it has a pipeline of new contracts and continues to focus on organic growth. In the longer term, Compass aims for the significant structural growth opportunities globally and the potential for further revenue and margin growth.

Compass generated annual revenues of £17bn in the year to 30 September 2014. It operates in over 50 countries, employs over 500,000 people and serves over 4 billion meals every year.
