£100m Iceland Distribution Centre brings 750 Jobs to Warrington

Situated at Omega Park, Iceland’s new £100 million facility marks a significant milestone in the food manufacturing and logistics sector. Developed in partnership with GXO Logistics, the cutting-edge distribution centre is set to create over 750 new jobs.

As Iceland’s largest warehouse to date, the new facility will serve as a central hub, distributing products to over 350 Iceland stores, with the capacity to potentially support up to 500 locations in the future.

The distribution centre features a range of storage solutions, including ambient, chilled, and frozen areas. Notably, it’s partially powered by solar panels, reflecting Iceland’s commitment to sustainable operations.

Outfitted with state-of-the-art technology, the facility is designed to boost operational efficiency and reinforce supply chain resilience.

To support the new development, local authorities have secured a multi-million-pound investment to enhance transport links to Omega Park. The initiative includes the launch of two new bus services, improving accessibility for staff commuting from Warrington and St Helens.

Tarsem Dhaliwal, chief executive at Iceland, stated: “We’re always looking at ways to make our business stronger, more efficient, and better for our customers. Investing in our supply chain is a huge part of that, and this new state-of-the-art warehouse is a game-changer.

“It gives us the capacity to grow, improve service, and futureproof our operations for years to come. Warrington means a lot to me personally, as the place where I grew up, and it gives me particular pleasure to have been able to make such a major investment here. We’re proud to be employing more than 750 people and delivering real economic benefits to the local community.”

Meanwhile, Gavin Williams, Managing Director at GXO for the UK and Ireland, expressed pride in strengthening the logistics partnership with Iceland through the creation of a warehouse designed to be 'fit for the future.'

“The new Warrington regional distribution centre is great news for the local community and for our colleagues, who will help us assist Iceland’s growth plans across the country,” Williams added.

Iceland currently operates more than 950 stores across the UK, including a number of The Food Warehouse outlets.
