Morrisons strengthens leadership team through internal reshuffle

Morrisons has announced the appointment of Clare Grainger, currently serving as group people and corporate services director, to its group board effective 1 May 2025.

With over 16 years at the supermarket, Grainger will take on a part-time role focused on strategic matters, bringing her deep insight and extensive experience to the board.

Alongside Grainger’s new role, Jodie Keating has been promoted to group people director.

Keating, who has spent close to 15 years with Morrisons, most recently held the role of people director for operations.

CEO Rami Baitieh said: “Our most important asset is our amazing colleagues, and both Clare and Jodie have dedicated their working lives to training, developing, and investing in people and talent at every level.

“I am so pleased that Clare will now bring her deep skills, experience, and strategic insights directly to the Morrisons board, and that Jodie’s huge contribution to Morrisons’ progress has been recognised with this well-deserved promotion to a critical group role.”

These latest appointments follow the recent hiring of former Aldi executive George Brown, who took on the role of group property director earlier this month.

Brown previously held the position of national property director at Aldi, a role he served in from March 2004 to March 2025.

Additionally, the supermarket confirmed that Bruno Lebon, its group trading director for non-food, has stepped down after just four months in the role.

The departures follow Morrisons’ announcement last month of a major operational overhaul, which includes the planned closure of 52 cafés, all 18 Market Kitchens, 17 convenience stores, 13 florists, 35 meat counters, 35 fish counters, and four pharmacies.

Earlier this month, the supermarket chain also increased its savings target to £1bn as its turnaround strategy continued to gather momentum.
