The Danish group, Sticks’n’Sushi is to open its eighth UK restaurant on Monday 1 October, on Kings Road in Chelsea - its largest restaurant to date.
The opening of the three-storey Sticks’n’Sushi Kings Road fulfils a long- held dream of the founders to have a presence on the world-famous thoroughfare.
Located at 113-115 Kings Road, the newest Sticks’n’Sushi will accommodate 220 guests over its three floors. Designed by Copenhagen architects NORM, the interior will play on themes of light and dark, with each floor having its own distinctive identity achieved through the use of different, but complementary, colours, textures and lighting.
The focal point of the 90-cover ground floor will be an open kitchen island with counter seating, at which guests will be able to eat or just enjoy a drink. The kitchen is also visible from both the high banquettes and lower table seating around the room, creating a sense of theatre.
Upstairs on the first floor, counter seating, low banquettes and tables will offer a variety of spaces for guests to discover. There will also be larger booths and a long communal table, a familiar fixture of Sticks’n’Sushi since its founding in Copenhagen in 1994. Tall windows spanning the width of the room will offer views of the bustling Kings Road.
The basement houses a distinctive feature of the new Sticks’n’Sushi, and a first for the group: The Kings Room, a 26-seat ‘restaurant-within-a-restaurant’ private dining room, equipped with its own kitchen, cocktail bar and dedicated team.
Guests booking the room will be able to choose bespoke menus, prepared for them by their own chefs, and can choose to have the concertina doors to the kitchen open to watch the chefs at work, or closed for complete privacy.
Fully-equipped with a TV screen and AV system, the room can be used for presentations and guests can choose their own music, separately from the rest of the restaurant. It is even possible by prior arrangement to access the private dining floor via a dedicated lift.
Sticks’n’Sushi’s kitchen sits at the mid-point between Tokyo and Copenhagen. Known for their unique offering of freshly-made sushi and grilled yakitori, the menu is presented as a ‘photo album’ featuring images of every dish, grouped into categories to enable guests to order intuitively.
Sticks, sushi and sashimi can be ordered a la carte as individual pieces, or as menus composed by Sticks’n’Sushi. These range in size from Mixed Emotions, a mix of sticks-, nigiri and maki perfect for one, to the Four Meal Drive, an abundance of nigiri and maki that will comfortably satisfy four.
‘Going Greener’ is a core philosophy at Sticks’n’Sushi so vegetarian and vegan dishes, of which there are many, have their own dedicated ‘Green Card’ pages, meaning that guests following a meat-free or plant-based diet can see at a glance the large variety of dishes available.
Sticks’n’Sushi will also offer its complete menu to takeaway, every order prepared with the same care as when dining in, ready to collect for a restaurant-quality experience at home or in the office.
Founder Kim Rahbek said, 'Ever since my brother Jens, brother-in-law and partner Thor Andersen and I first came up with the idea for Sticks’n’Sushi, we’ve said that one day we would open on the Kings Road. For us it’s the epitome of everything that’s great about London; from the Swinging Sixties to the present day it’s never gone out of style. So to be opening here this year really is a dream come true for us.'
Group CEO Rod McKie added, 'We are delighted to be opening the largest Sticks’n’Sushi anywhere to date on the world-famous Kings Road. With its many different dining and bar spaces, as well as our first ‘restaurant-within-a-restaurant’ for private dining, we’re bringing a new style of Sticks’n’Sushi experience to Chelsea.'
