The Germany-based frozen ready meals company Apetito is planning to establish a new manufacturing facility in the UK.
The new facility will be built next to Apetito’s existing factory on Canal Road in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, in southwest England. According to a statement, it will be constructed on the site of the company’s former 'Pie Site,' which closed at the end of 2024.
Apetito, which also runs the Wiltshire Farm Foods meal delivery service in the UK, confirmed that its existing Trowbridge factory, the Mill Site on Canal Road, will remain unchanged.
The Mill Site facility employs 670 people, contributing to Apetito’s total UK workforce of approximately 2,000.
Apetito is a privately owned company founded in 1958 by the Düsterberg family. Headquartered in Rheine, Germany, the company expanded into the UK in 1991 and now supplies hospitals, schools, nurseries, and care homes with a variety of frozen ready meals.
Lee Sheppard, Director of Corporate Affairs, Policy, and Sustainability for Apetito and Wiltshire Farm Foods in the UK, stated in the announcement that local growth has driven the need for expansion in Trowbridge, where the company is the largest 'private' employer.
Plans for the new site have been prepared and will be submitted to the Wiltshire Planning Office for approval.
Sheppard said: “It’s very important to us that we build a world-class, regenerative, manufacturing facility for Trowbridge that aligns to our commitment to reach net zero by 2040,” Sheppard said.
“We aim to create one of the most sustainable food manufacturing facilities in the UK.”
