The Korean fried chicken brand Bonchon is looking for a franchise partner to introduce its rapidly expanding concept to the UK.
Bonchon, founded by Jinduk Seo in Busan, South Korea, in 2002, expanded to New York City in 2006 and has since grown to over 455 locations worldwide.
Bonchon offers fried chicken wings, drumsticks, and boneless wings, all hand-brushed and double-fried for its signature crunch. The menu also features dishes like udon noodle soup, chicken katsu, and bibimbap.
Bonchon operates over 140 locations in the USA, with additional international outlets in the Philippines, Thailand, France, Singapore, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Vietnam.
Following the launch of two locations in Paris, Bonchon is looking for experienced hospitality entrepreneurs to serve as master franchisees in the UK and expand the brand nationwide.
The majority of Bonchon's sit-down restaurants also provide takeaway and delivery services, which now make up 49% of total sales.
Bonchon is giving its future UK franchise partner the chance to become the master franchisee for the UK or specific regions, with the option to sub-franchise after two years of operation.
Bonchon's Korea-based team will support growth by providing expertise in design, specifications, marketing, branding, training, menu research and development, and operations.
Simon Chaplin, senior director – pubs, restaurants & franchise at Christie & Co, said: “We started working with Bonchon last year to bring their distinctive ’crunch’ to the UK. Having visited both sites in Paris, it is clear that Bonchon is a welcome addition to the landscape.
“There is no doubt that chicken-led QSR brands are performing well throughout the UK, and the power of an international partner with over 455 stores and the support of dedicated experts will help the franchisee develop a valuable business over the coming years.”
Bonchon is among a growing number of international brands expanding into the UK this year, alongside Australia's Lenu Lu Donuts and Texas' Velvet Taco.
