The four-AA-red-star Beechfield House hotel in Wiltshire has been acquired by India-based Bird Group, with the sale completed off a guide price of £4m.
The country house hotel had been under the ownership of Chris Whyte for the past 19 years, but he has now sold the property as he plans to retire.
Bird Group is the promoter and operator behind Roseate Hotels & Resorts, a portfolio of luxury properties in both India and the UK, including the Roseate Edinburgh.
The group stated that it plans to 'responsibly and mindfully' restore Beechfield House under its new ownership.
Beechfield House is a Grade II-listed property, built in 1878, and set within eight acres of gardens and woodland. Converted into a hotel in the late 1960s, it now boasts 24 bedrooms, an orangery, a 40 ft outdoor swimming pool, along with several dining, meeting, and event spaces.
The hotel was recognised as the AA Inspectors’ Choice Country House Hotel for 2024-25 and has also held an AA Breakfast Award for 2024-2025. Additionally, it has earned two AA rosettes for culinary excellence from 2024-2025.
Whyte said “I am delighted to be handing over into the safe custody of the Roseate Group a much-loved home and business of 19 years.
“A very special thanks to the fantastic team and local suppliers – many of whom have been with me throughout the whole incredible journey and who have all played their part in us achieving the many accolades over the years.
“It was great working with Matthew Smith of Knight Frank who facilitated a discreet off market sale at a guide of £4m for my retirement.”
Ravi Birdy, executive director of Roseate Hotels and Resorts, said: “We welcome Beechfield House and its exceptionally talented team into the Bird family, and we look forward to responsibly and mindfully restoring Beechfield House, reimagined!”.
Roseate Hotels & Resorts also owns other UK properties, including Roseate Reading and Roseate Villa Bath.
