Marks & Spencer set to launch 17 new London stores in £90m expansion

Marks & Spencer (M&S) has announced plans to launch a series of new Foodhalls across London, supported by a £90 million investment drive.

The high street giant is set to open six new Foodhalls in Clapham, Covent Garden, Fulham Broadway, Putney, New Malden, and Leytonstone. In addition, eleven existing stores across London will undergo refurbishments, including a complete revamp of the iconic Pantheon location on Oxford Street.

The plans also involve upgrades to seven existing Foodhalls, located in Brooklands, Islington, Brent Cross, Whetstone, Wimbledon, Chiswick, and Clapham South.

The new foodhalls and extensions will increase the retailer’s London footprint by over 70,000 square feet. The revamped stores will feature an expanded produce section with a broader range of fresh fruits and vegetables, doubled ambient and frozen sections, and a larger bakery.

M&S stated that the investment, which is expected to create an additional 450 local jobs, is part of its ongoing store renewal and rotation programme.

The investment also follows M&S’s recent commitment of an additional £50m to grow its store estate in the Northwest of England, reinforcing its broader strategy to enhance its presence across key regions.

“London has always been a special place for M&S, growing from penny bazaars in the early 20th century into fresh Foodhalls like the one in Brixton we reopened last year,” said M&S operations director Sacha Berendji.

“We serve thousands of customers in the capital across our full line offering in larger stores on Oxford Street, which are soon to be redeveloped, to food on the move in train stations and we are always looking at what we can do next.

“Our pipeline of stores demonstrates our continued investment in London, and we will continue to bring the very best of M&S to customers from Brixton to Barnet for years to come.”
