Edinburgh’s Fhior restaurant to close its doors after seven years

Edinburgh fine dining restaurant Fhior will close after nearly seven years in operation.

Chef and co-owner Scott Smith announced the closure earlier this week via Instagram. He wrote: 'After seven incredible years, we’ve made the deeply difficult decision to bring our restaurant, Fhior, to a close.”

Fhior, derived from the Gaelic word for ‘true,’ opened in 2018 and is featured in the Michelin Guide for Great Britain and Ireland.

Smith explained that “a very difficult hospitality climate has taken its toll” on him and his co-owner and wife Laura Smith. He also cited “personal and practical factors,” including the arrival of their second child and a desire to spend more time with their growing family, as reasons for the closure.

Smith, who appeared on the Great British Menu in 2021, shared that the Fhior team had been involved in discussions about the closure and that they had all been given time to find new opportunities.

Fhior will hold its final service on 1 June.

Smith revealed that in the coming months, he and Laura will focus on growing Blank Plate Creative, their restaurant consultancy service.
