Dishoom prepares to open first restaurant in Leeds

Dishoom is gearing up to open its first restaurant in Leeds.

Documents reveal that UK-based property investment firm Town Centre Securities (TCS) submitted a planning application to Leeds City Council on behalf of the Indian restaurant group in March.

TCS stated it plans to develop its 7,300 sq ft site at 68–78 Vicar Lane into a restaurant, with the building set to be 'sympathetically transformed to align with Dishoom’s distinctive design style and storytelling approach'.

Vicar Lane is a 0.65-acre, mixed-use leisure development dating back to the 1900s, located near prominent establishments such as John Lewis, The Ivy, and Hugo Boss.

The plans for the Leeds restaurant come during a period of expansion for Dishoom, which added nearly 300 new staff members last year as its sales exceeded £100m for the first time.

Last month, the group — inspired by the Irani cafés of old Bombay — announced it was close to securing a site in New York for its first U.S. restaurant.

Charles Newman, associate director, estates at TCS, said: “We are thrilled at the opportunity to bring Dishoom to Leeds and be able to provide such an iconic space in the heart of the city. Dishoom is a brand that has redefined dining experiences in the UK, and their decision to come to Leeds – and specifically to this key location, is a strong vote of confidence in the city’s continued growth as a regional destination for food, retail and culture.”

TCS added that further details on the launch will be provided pending planning approval.

Dishoom operates 10 restaurants under its main brand, including a 235-cover location at Battersea Power Station, which opened in 2023, as well as Permit Room bars in Brighton, Cambridge, and Oxford.
